I have been a Scottish Highland dancer since 1985 and have taught dance classes in Colorado for over 30 years. Through the years I have had multiple students qualify for the US National Championship as well as the British Association of Teachers of Dancing Sadie Simpson Scholarships, which acknowledges excellence in dance theory.
I am certified as a Fellow Highland and National dance instructor with the British Association of Teachers of Dancing and as a Member Highland and National instructor with the Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance. I am also a judge for the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dance, judging dance competitions throughout the US, Canada and Scotland since 2001.
In addition to teaching, I have also spent many years growing and supporting our local Colorado non-profit highland dance organization, the Rocky Mountain Highland Dancers (www.rmhd.org), as a board member and active volunteer. I also actively participate in our national dance organization, ScotDance USA (www.scotdanceusa.com), having served in a number of board positions for the Southwest Region, including co-chairing the US National Highland Dance Championship that was supposed to be held in Denver in July 2020 – which we successfully pivoted to a fully virtual event providing dancers around the world with a way to connect during a challenging season of no competitions or performances.
